Tehani Keeno was born in Kailua, Hawaii on January 17, 1986. She is the daughter of Cynthie and Richard Keeno. Her uncle, David Eldredge, is SUU's baseball coach. She married Tommy Douglas on August 4, 2006. Tehani attended Pleasant Grove High School. She competed for Mary Wright and Ryan Kirkham at Olympus Gymnastics.

In 1999, Tehani competed as a level nine. She finished second on bars at Westerns. In 2000, she moved up to level ten. Tehani qualified to the Junior Olympic National Championships. She finished fourth all-around. This qualified her for the JO National Team. After the level ten season, she qualified to junior international elite. She competed at the US Classic. Tehani did level ten after that.

At Southern Utah State University, Tehani competed on bars nine times as a freshman and on floor twice. She counted seven of her bars scores and one of her floor scores. As a sophomore, she competed on bars at every meet and on floor seven times. All but two of her bar routines counted. As a junior, she qualified for the NCAA Regionals. As a senior she competed on uneven bars and floor at every meet.
