Shelby Edwards was born on January 23, 1994. She trained at Precision Gymnastics until the summer of 2005. Shelby then began training at SCEGA. Following the 2007 season, her family moved to Arizona where she began competing for Carter's Gymnastics Academy.
In 2004, Shelby competed level seven. She finished third all-around at the San Diego Classic. At the California Classic, she placed fourth. Shelby won floor at States. She finished third on beam and fourth all-around. She moved up to level eight in 2005. She swept the gold medals at the Flips USA Invitational. At the San Diego Classic, she finished second all-around. Shelby won beam and the all-around at the Surf City Classic. She won beam, floor and the all-around at the California Classic. At States, she finished first on floor. Shelby ended her season by winning beam and the all-around at Regionals.
Shelby moved up to level nine in 2006. She won vault at the San Diego Classic. At the Hard Rock Invitational, she won floor and placed second all-around. She finished third at the Long Beach Open. Shelby moved up to level ten midway through the season. She won the California Classic and Friendship Challenge. At States, she finished sixth all-around. Shelby won bars and placed ninth at Regionals. Following the level ten season, she qualified to hopes elite. She competed at the US Challenge.
She continued to have strong results in 2007. Shelby placed second all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. She finished third at both the IGHOF Invitational and San Diego Classic. She won beam at States. Shelby did not compete at Regionals. She qualified to junior pre-elite. She returned in 2008 at the Arizona State Championships, placed second all-around and first on beam. At Regionals, she placed third all-around. Shelby missed most of 2009 due to a strained back. She came back to win beam and place second at States with a 38.000. At Regionals, she finished second all-around. Shelby had a great JO National Championships, finishing second all-around. She placed fourth on vault and beam, third on bars and seventh on floor.
In 2010, Shelby finished second on beam at the Long Beach Open. She won vault and beam at the Chinese New Year Celebration. At States, she won bars, floor and the all-around. Shelby won bars and finished fifth all-around at Regionals. She did not compete at JO Nationals. In 2011, Shelby finished third all-around at the Chinese New Year Celebration. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the State Championships.
