Emma Lee Hoffman was born in Summit, New Jersey on August 11, 1993. She has one sister, Kayla. Kayla was on the US National Team. Her parents are Richard and Helen. She began gymnastics at the age of three. She trains at Rebound Gymnastics. Before 2001, she trained at Sunburst. Emma was on the National TOPs "B" Team in 2004. She will graduate from the Pensacola Christian Academy in 2011.

In 2001, Emma competed as a level five. She moved up to level six in 2002. She competed at States. In 2004, Level 7 States were held in January. She won the vault, floor and all-around titles. She then moved up to level eight. Emma finished fourth on floor at States. In 2004, she also competed as a TOPS Elite at the American Challenge. She moved up to level nine in 2005. Emma finished fourth all-around at the Friendship Classic. She qualified to Easterns.

Emma competed as a level ten in 2007. She finished second on vault at the WOGA Classic. In the all-around, she placed fifth. Emma ended her season at States with an eighth place finish. In 2008, she finished third all-around at the Level Ten State Qualifier. At the Scarlet Knight Challenge, she finished fourth all-around. She won a bronze medal on bars. At States, she qualified for Regionals. Emma had a great 2009 season. In late 2008, she won the all-around at the Rutgers Classic and finished third all-around at the Christmas City Classic. She won the all-around at the NJ State Championships. She also won vault and floor. At Regionals, she won floor and the all-around. This qualified her for her first JO Nationals.

In 2010, Emma finished second all-around at the Buckeye Classic. She won bars and placed third all-around at the Twilight Knight Invite. Emma did not compete in the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed ninth all-around. Emma won vault, floor and the all-around at the JO National Invitational Tournament.
