Brittney Emmons was born on September 11, 1989. She trained at First City Gymnastics in Florida during her club career.

In 1998, Brittney competed level eight. She finished 15th all-around at Regionals. She competed level nine in 2000. She finished 14th all-around at Regionals. She placed third on floor and 23rd all-around at Easterns. In 2001, Brittney finished third on vault at Regionals. She placed tenth on beam, sixth on vault and tenth all-around at JO Nationals. She moved up to level ten in 2002. She finished third all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished ninth all-around. She placed fifth on floor and seventh on vault. In 2003, Brittney won vault, floor and the all-around at the State Championships. She later qualified to junior national elite. She competed at the US Challenge. In 2004, Brittney finished second all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she won floor! She placed ninth on vault. She competed at the American Challenge as a junior pre-elite. She then made junior international elite. Brittney competed at the US Classic.

Brittney qualified to senior international elite in 2005. She competed at the US Classic. She returned to level ten in 2006. She finished fourth on floor at Regionals. In 2007, Brittney finished first on vault at the State Championships. She placed fourth all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed second on floor and seventh on vault. Brittney finished 15th all-around. In 2008, Brittney won vault and floor at the State Championships. She also won vault and floor at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed fourth on vault and floor. She finished 26th all-around.

As a freshman at Ball State in 2009, Brittney competed in all twelve meets. She saw action on all four events. She qualified to NCAA Regionals on vault and floor. In 2010, Brittney was named MAC Gymnast of the Week after winning vault, floor and the all-around at Illinois State. Brittney competed in the all-around twelve times throughout the season. Brittney won floor seven times, bars once, and vault three times. In addition to winning the all-around at Illinois State, she won at New Hampshire. She competed in the all-around at the Regional meet. She was named to the All-MAC Conference Second-Team.
