Emiko Ono was born on June 6, 1990. She trained at Hawaiian Island Twisters during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2008.

In 2005, Emiko competed level nine. She finished in the top ten at Regionals. She competed at Westerns where she placed ninth on beam. She moved up to level ten in 2006. She finished eighth all-around at Regionals, earning the alternate spot for JO Nationals. In 2007, Emiko placed first on bars and second on vault at the State Championships. She finished sixth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2008, Emiko placed third all-around at the State Championships. She finished in the top ten at Regionals.

As a freshman at BYU in 2009, Emiko competed on vault in ten of the eleven meets. She also competed on bars six times. She transferred to Sac State for the 2010 season. She competed on vault and bars throughout the season. In 2011, Emiko competed on bars in all even meets. She also competed on vault once.
