Lora Evenstad was born on December 2, 1989 to Dean and Vicky Evenstad in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She trained at Red River Valley Gymnastics Club under James Bayer. She began attending the University of Nebraska in the fall of 2008.
In 2003, Lora competed level nine. She finished in the top ten at Westerns. She won a silver medal on vault. She moved up to level ten in 2004. She swept the gold medals at the State Championships. At JO Nationals, she finished 26th all-around. Lora swept the gold medals at the North Dakota State Championships in 2005. She finished third on floor at JO Nationals. In 2006, Lora swept the gold medals at States for the third year. She won vault, bars and the all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished in the top ten all-around.
Lora had a very successful year in 2008. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At JO Nationals, she became the first gymnast from North Dakota to win the all-around title! She also made the JO National Team. As a freshman at Nebraska, she competed on vault, bars and floor. She was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year. She was named to the All-Big 12 team on floor. She was named Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week in March.
