Marie Fjordholm was born on October 13, 1983 in Miami, Florida. She is the daughter of Jann Mary and Jarle. She has twin sisters named Anne and Tove. Both do gymnastics at Illinois State University. Her youngest sister, Trine, also particpated in gymnastics. Her dad was a gymnast in Norway and her mom was a cheerleader for the Miami Dolphins.
Marie began gymnastics in 1988. She trained with Brown's Houston in 1996. Marie competed for Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy in 1997 and 1998. She was with WOGA in 1999 and 2000. Marie then moved to International Gymnastics in Spring, Texas in 2001. She trained with Mesquite in 2002. Marie did not finish her gymnastics career at University of Georgia because of injuries.
In 1996 she competed for Brown's Gymnastics in Houston. She qualified to the 1996 JO Nationals. Marie finished sixth all-around and second on floor. She began training at Cincinnati Gymnastics in 1997. In 1997, she finished seventh on floor at the JO Nationals. She competed at the US Challenge and National Gymnastics Festival. At the US Challenge she was second overall.
Marie made her third trip to JO Nationals in 1998. She finished eighth all-around. After the level 10 season Marie qualified as an international elite. At the US Classic she finished 12th all-around and first on floor. At the US Championships Marie placed 17th all-around and made her first US National Team.
Marie moved up to the senior divison in 1999. She also began training at WOGA. At Nationals she finished 19th all-around. In 2000 Marie finished 5th all-around and first on floor at the American Classic. She was able to compete at the Pacific Alliance in New Zealand before the National Championships. At Nationals Marie finished 14th all-around, barely missing the Olympic Trials. Marie led the USA team to a first place finish at the International Team Championships in late 2000.
In 2001 she began training at International Gymnastics Academy. She began her season at the American Team Cup. Her final all-around meet was the US Classic. She finished eighth all-around. At the US National Championships Marie suffered a terrible fall on beam and was unable to complete her routine.
She began to train at Mesquite Gymnastics. Her final elite meet was the 2002 American Classic. She finished tenth all-around. In the fall of 2002 Marie began her career at University of Georgia. Marie was only able to compete one season before retiring due to a back injury.
