Austyn Shea Fobes was born in Red Bank, New Jersy on April 21, 1991. She is the daughter of Tom and Jennifer. Austyn has a brother named Cody. He is a wrestler. Her sister, Bayleigh, is also a gymnast. Austyn began gymnastics at the age of three at Devlin Gymnastics in Wall, New Jersey. She switched to Rebound in 2002. In 2005, Austyn moved to Will-Moor Gymnastics. In the fall of 2006, she began training at Galaxy with her mom as her coach. She also competed in high school gymnastics.

In 2000, she competed as a level six. She finished fifth all-around at the Capital Cup. In 2001, she competed as a level seven. She placed third all-around at the Parkette Invitatonal. She moved up to level eight after a few meets. She competed at the State Championships. Austyn repeated level eight in 2002. She finished fifth at States. She went to Rebound Gymnastics after the season. Austyn qualified to the National TOPs Team later that year. She also competed at the US Challenge as a child national elite in 2002.

Austyn competed as a child national elite in 2003. She competed at the national Elite Podium Meet and Friendship Classic. At the US Challenge, she finished third overall! In 2004, Austyn began the season as a junior pre-elite. Pre-elite was the new name for national elite. She competed at the American Challenge. She also competed at some open invitationals. After the American Challenge, she qualified to junior international elite. Austyn finished fifteenth at the US Classic! This qualified her for the US National Championships. At Nationals, Austyn made the US National Team!

Unfortunately, Austyn was injured in 2005. She came back in 2006 to re-qualify to junior international elite. She was injured on her second event at the US Classic. In the fall, Austyn competed for her school. She earned all-section honors on every event and the all-around. She won the conference all-around title. Austyn also won the Sectional title. She finished fifth all-around at high school states. She was named Gymnast of the Year.

Austyn, as a junior, continued to expand her high school achievements in 2007. She earned many honors, such as two-time first team all district, two-time first team all shore, two-time team all state. Austyn was also the 2007 Asbury Park Press Gymnast of the Year and 2007 Star Ledger Gymnast of the Year. In 2008, she finished third on vault and floor at the State Championships. She finished ninth all-around at Regionals. In November, she signed with the University of New Hampshire. She also won the NJ High School State Championships.
