Tauny Frattone was born on May 28, 1990. She has two younger sisters, Hailey and Sydney. Tauny trained at Olympic Gymnastics Academy, formerly AOG, under Nicole DeMoss and Kelly Smith during her club career. Tauny came along way from scoring 25s as a level five in 1997, to signing with UCLA in 2007.

In 2000, Tauny competed level seven. She placed second all-around at the State Championships. She won vault and floor. She jumped up to level nine in the 2001 season. She finished tenth all-around at the State Championships. She finished second on vault at the Sweetheart Invitational in 2002. She continued competing level nine in 2003, making the Regional Championships. She moved up to level ten in 2004. Tauny placed second on vault at the California Classic. At Regionals, she finished fourth all-around, making her first JO National Championships.

Tauny continued competing level ten in 2005. She won bars, beam and floor at the Surf City Classic. At the State Championships, she only competed on balance beam. She petitioned to Regionals where she placed fifth on beam. She returned to full strength in 2006. She placed second on vault and beam at the Surf City Classic. Tauny won beam and placed second all-around at the Friendship Challenge. At States, she won vault and bars and placed third all-around. Tauny finished second on vault, third on bars and third all-around at Regionals.

She started her 2007 season with a bang, scoring a career-high 38.00 all-around at the Brestyan Invitational. She next took home the all-around at the IGHOF Invitational, Surf City Classic, and California Classic. At the State Championships, Tauny won vault and the all-around! She placed third on bars and floor. She struggled at Regionals, placing eighth all-around. She still qualified for JO Nationals, where she placed 13th all-around and fifth on floor. Tauny started her 2008 season by winning vault at the National Judges Cup. She then swept all five gold medals at the Surf City Classic, scoring a 38.075. She then finished second all-around at the California Classic and first at the Top Flight Invite. At States, she won vault and bars. Tauny finished second all-around. She placed fifth at Regionals. Tauny had a great performance at JO Nationals, placing in the top ten on every event including a second place finish on beam! She also finished third all-around, making the JO National Team.

As a freshman at UCLA, Tauny competed on vault at several meets before an elbow injury kept her out of the last seven meets. She returned strongly as a sophomore, seeing action on all four events.
