Tenille Funches was born on October 23, 1994. She trained with the Chicago Park District through the 2002 season. She spent 2003 with Beverly Gymnastics Center. Tenille trained with Chicago Gym Center from 2004 to 2005. She then returned to the Chicago Park District. Tenille moved to Arena Gymnastics before the 2009 season. She briefly trained at Phenom in the fall of 2011 before moving to United Gymnastics Academy.

In 2002, Tenille competed level five. She moved up to level six in 2003. She finished second on bars at the State Championships. She competed level eight in 2004. She qualified to Regionals. Tenille did not compete in 2005. In 2006, she finished fourth all-around at the Sportsfest as a level nine. Tenille won bars at the Snowflake Invitational in 2007. She competed at Regionals. In 2008, she finished in the top ten at the IGI Chicago Style.

Tenille had a strong 2009 season. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Twistars Invitational as a level nine. She finished second at the Bravo Classic. She won vault, floor and the all-around at the GymQuarterse Invitational. She won vault and bars at the Gasparilla Classic. At Regionals, she finished second on vault and floor. She placed third all-around. At Easterns, Tenille finished fifth on vault, sixth on bars and ninth all-around.

She began competing level ten in 2010. She placed second all-around at the GymQuarters Invitational and fourth at the Arena Classic. She won a bronze medal on floor and in the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished third all-around and second on floor. Tenille placed tenth on floor at JO Nationals. She finished 15th all-around. In 2011, Tenille finished second onbeam at the UGA Classic. She placed second all-around at the For Love or Money meet. At the GymQuarters Invitational, she won vault and bars. She placed third all-around at the Arena Classic. Tenille finished second all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won the all-around title. She placed fifth on vault, tenth on beam and fourth all-around at JO Nationals.
