Nicole Giao was born to Eric and Andrea on December 19, 1985. She graduated from Etiwanda High School in 2004. During her club career, she trained at Crescenta Valley Gymnastics. Nicole began attending Sacramento State University in 2004.
In 2001, Nicole competed as a level nine. She finished third all-around at the Xtreme Xtravaganza. She placed second all-around and first on bars at the Level 9 State Championships. Nicole also competed at Regionals. She won the uneven bars title at the USAIGC National Championships in 2002. Nicole competed as a level ten in 2003. She placed second on vault at Regionals in 2003. In 2004, Nicole placed fifth on vault at Regionals!
As a freshman, Nicole competed on vault, beam and floor. She competed on vault in all thirteen meets. As a sophomore, Nicole competed on the same three events. She competed on vault in all thirteen meets. She was in the beam lineup for the final nine meets. During her junior season, she competed on vault and beam in eleven meets. She was in the floor lineup nine times. She missed four meets midseason because of a knee injury. In 2008, Nicole led the team on vault at the WAC Championships and NCAA West Regional. She also participated on floor.
