Ashleigh Gnat was born on November 13, 1994. She is the daughter of 1972 Olympian Joan Moore Gnat and former LSU gymnast Ray Gnat. Her sister, Jeana Rice, was the 2004 NCAA all-around champion for the University of Alabama. Ashleigh trains at ACE Gymnastics in Florida. She will graduate from high school in 2013.

In 2006, Ashleigh competed level nine. She won vault and beam at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. At the Pikes Peak Cup, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Ashleigh continued competing level nine in 2007. She placed third on bars and beam at the Maryland Classic during event finals. At the State Championships, she won vault, floor and the all-around. Ashleigh ended her season at Easterns, placing eighth. She moved up to level ten in 2008. She won beam, floor and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. She won floor at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed first on vault and bars. She finished second all-around. Ashleigh ended her season at JO Nationals, placing eighth on floor and 19th all-around.

Ashleigh continued competing level ten in 2009. She won floor at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She won beam, floor and the all-around at the Daytona Beach Open. At the Tampa Bay Turner's Invitational, she won vault and floor. Ashleigh won vault and floor at the State Championships. She placed third all-around. At Regionals, she placed second on vault, bars and the all-around. She won floor. She ended her season at JO Nationals, placing ninth all-around. She also finished third on floor, fifth on beam and tenth on bars.

She continued to have strong results in 2010. She won vault, floor and the all-around at the Tampa Bay Turner's Invitational. At the Sand Dollar Invitational, Ashleigh won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. She won bars and the all-around at the Daytona Beach Open. She placed second all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At the Kurt Thomas Invitational, she won bars, beam, floor and the all-around. Ashleigh finished 21st all-around at the Nastia Liukin Cup. At the State Championships, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. She won floor and the all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed seventh all-around and second on vault.

In 2011, Ashleigh placed first on vault, beam and the all-around at the Flip Fest Invitational. She won beam at the Sand Dollar Invitational. At the Daytona Beach Open, Ashleigh won vault and the all-around. She placed second all-around at the Buckeye Classic. She finished third all-around at the Tim Rand Invitational. At the National Gymnastics Challenge, Ashleigh won vault and floor. She placed first on vault at the State Championships. She won all five gold medals at Regionals! She placed seventh on vault and sixth on beam at JO Nationals. She finished 15th all-around.
