Julia Greer was born on December 19, 1991. She trained at Mission Valley YMCA during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2010.
In 2001, Julia competed level five. She finished sixth all-around at the State Championships. She moved up to level six in 2002. She finished in the top fifteen at the State Championships. Julia competed level eight in 2004. She qualified for Regionals. In 2005, she began competing level nine. She finished fourth on vault at the San Diego Classic. She won vault at the California Classic. At the State Championships, she finished sixth all-around. Julia placed second all-around at the 2006 San Diego Classic. She won vault at the California Classic. She finished fifth all-around at the State Championships. In 2007, Julia finished third all-around at the California Classic. She placed second on beam and floor at the Diamond Elite Top Flight Invite. She won beam at the State Championships.
Julia continued competing level nine in 2008. She finished second on floor at the San Diego Classic. She placed first on vault and beam at the California Classic. She finished second on vault and tenth all-around at Regionals. She placed eighth on beam and 20th all-around at Westerns. Julia moved up to level ten in 2009. She finished first on beam at the AOGC Invitational. She placed second on beam at the California Classic. She finished third on beam at the State Championships. She placed in the top twenty at Regionals. In 2010, she placed second on floor at the San Diego Classic. She won beam at the California Classic. Julia won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the Last Chance meet. At the State Championships, she placed third all-around. She finished sixth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals.
As a freshman at San Jose State in 2011, Julia competed on beam in all event meets. She won the beam title twice, both times against San Jose State. Julia also competed on floor in all twelve meets. She was selected a WAC Freshman of the Year.
