Claire Hammen was born on July 14, 1996. She trains at GK's Gymnastics in Colorado.

In 2005, Claire competed level eight. She finished third all-around at States. She qualified for the Regional Championships. She moved up to level nine in 2006 then level ten in 2007. At the California Classic, she finished second on beam and floor. Claire placed sixth all-around at the State Championships. She ended her season at Regionals. In 2008, she won vault at the Winterfest. She finished fourth on vault at States. She placed tenth all-around at Regionals. She later qualified to hopes elite. Claire competed at the US Challenge.

Claire continued competing level ten and pre-elite in 2009. She won vault, floor and the all-around at the Metroplex Challenge as a level ten. She finished third on vault at the California Classic. At the Rocky Invitational, she won the all-around. Claire placed second on vault and floor at States. At Regionals, she finished third on beam and second on floor. She placed eighth all-around. She ended her level ten season at JO Nationals. In July, she competed at the US Challenge as a junior pre-elite.

Claire had a great 2010 season! She won the all-around title at the Denver Winterfest. She traveled to Orlando, Florida for the Sand Dollar Invitational, where she finished seventh in the all-around. At the AOGC Invitational in California, she won the all-around title as well as first on floor exercise. Claire then won all-around titles at the Level 10 State Championships and Level 10 Regional Championships. There, she qualified to the Junior Olympic Nationals for the second time in Dallas, Texas. In Dallas, she finished impressive 13th in the all-around and eighth on balance beam. After Claire's JO season, she competed at the Bieger's Elite Qualifier in Florida and won the all-around title with a 53.3. This qualified Claire to junior international elite and to the VISA Championships in Hartford, CT. Claire concluded her 2010 season at both US Covergirl Classic and VISA Championships.
