Nicole Stefanie Harris was born in New York on June 8, 1988. She is the daughter of Glenn and Caroline. Nicole has two younger sisters, Kimberly and Emma. She began gymnatics in New York, competing for Gold Medal Gymnastics Center. She trained at Parkettes from 2001-2004. In 2005, she competed for her high school and became the high school all-around state champion. Nicole went to Arizona State University in the fall of 2005.
Nicole's first national meet was the level 10 JO Nationals. She placed 14th all-around and ninth on vault. Nicole then tested national elite and made it. At the National Gymfest she won the all-around title. 2002 was her first year as an international elite. She started her season by placing 2nd all-around at the Parkette Invite. She then won the Dragon Invite. Nicole's first international meet was the American Classic. Nicole placed 17th all-around. She continued to work hard for the US Classic. At the Classic meet she finished 5th all-around and made it to the USA Championships. The championships, her biggest meet yet, went very well for Nicole. She placed ninth all-around and made the national team. At the end of 2002 Nicole competed at two international meets. The first one was in Holland. She placed 10th all-around but won a medal on bars. At the Massilia Cup in France she won the all-around.
In 2003, Nicole moved up to the senior elite division. She started by placing 2nd all-around at the Parkette Invite and IGI Chicago Style. Nicole then placed sixth all-around at the national podium meet. She continued to shine by placing fifth all-around at the American Classic, her best national finish yet! Nicole then went to California to compete at the Pacific Challenge. She won beam against gymnasts such as Chellsie Memmel and Carly Patterson. Nicole continued great performances by placing 2nd all-around and winning bars at the US Classic. She was becoming one of the nation's best till disaster struck. While training for the USA Championships, Nicole broke her hand. This kept her out of the running for the World Championships Team.
She started her 2004 season by winning the National Podium Meet and the Parkette Invite. She then finished 3rd all-around at the American Classic. At the US Classic she finished 4th all-around. Nicole struggled at the national championships to finish 10th all-around. She did qualify for the Olympic Trials. However, Nicole fractured her ankle in training for the trials and was not able to pursue her Olympic Dream. In 2005, Nicole competed high school gymnastics.
As a freshman, Nicole was a major contributor to ASU. She earned second-team All-American status on balance beam. She competed in the all-around eleven times, vault twelve times, floor twelve times, and on beam and bars every meet. She won the Regional uneven bars titles. She won the all-around in her collegiate debut against Boise State. She also won the all-around against Utah. In 2007, Nicole competed in the all-around at every meet. She was named to the Pac-10 All-Around team. She finished third all-around at the Pac-10 Championships. Nicole also placed third on beam. She won two all-around competitions. She was also a Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention.
As a junior, she was named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week for January 22 after winning the all-around and floor. She won the all-around against Oregon State. She left the team in February because of personal reasons. She returned to the team later that year. As a senior, she was chosen for the Pac-10 first-team on beam. She placed second on beam at the Pac-10 Championships. She tied for the second spot for NCAA individual qualification but was bumped out.
