McKenzie Hedges was born on April 26, 1993. Her father, Darrin, is a soccer coach. Her mother, Denise, coaches gymnastics at Rockwall High School. Her sister, Tori, competed level seven in 2009. Kenzie trained at University of Gymnastics until 2006. She then switched to Plano Unlimited with a few of her coaches. She moved to United Elite Gymnastics in 2008.
In 2002, she competed as a level six. She did well at the State Championships. Kenzie competed level 8 in 2004. She placed third on bars at States. In 2005, she made it to level nine. She won the Surf City Classic and finished second at the Parkette Invite. She finished high enough at Regionals to qualify for the Western Championships. She finished eighth all-around! She moved up to level ten in 2006. Kenzie won the Kurt Thomas Invitational. She also competed at States and Regionals.
The summer brought Kenzie to junior pre-elite! She competed at the US Challenge.
In 2007, she finished third on vault at the WOGA Classic in the junior division. At the US Challenge, she placed second on vault and floor. She finished third in the all-around.
In 2009, she finished second on vault at the Kurt Thomas Invitational. She competed on vault and floor at the Texas Prime Meet. She then competed at the Wild Rose International in Canada. She finished second on vault, third on floor and third in the all-around. She won vault at the 2009 WOGA Classic. She also competed for her high school, Rockwall High, in 2009. She earned all-state selection for a third place finish on vault at States.
