Laurie Hernandez was born on June 9, 2000. She trains at Monmouth Gymnastics.
In 2008, she competed level four. She won floor and placed second all-around at the Rutgers Classic. At the Christmas City Classic, she swept the gold medals. In January, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the State Championships. She set records on each of the events. Laurie then moved up to level five. She swept the Sportsplex Invitational and Lucky Star Challenge. At the State Championships, she won beam, floor and the all-around. In the fall, she made the National TOPs Team.
She competed level six in January of 2010. She won the State Championships. She then moved up to level seven. She won bars, floor and the all-around at the Star Struck Invitational. She then competed level eight. She won floor. Laurie tested hopes at the Buckeye Classic. At the State Championships, she won beam, floor and the all-around. Laurie ended her season at Regionals, winning the all-around title. She placed second on beam and floor.
