Mariah Howdeshell was born on July 9, 1990. She trained at WOGA through the 2003 season. She then moved to Kurt Thomas Gymnastics until the fall of 2005. She then began training at Metroplex. Mariah graduated from high school a semester early to join Arkansas for the 2009 season.

In 2003, Mariah competed level nine. She won floor at the WOGA Classic. She finished third all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she won bars! She placed ninth on vault, seven on floor and sixth all-around. Mariah participated in elite qualifier competitions in 2004 and 2005. In 2005, she competed level ten at the Cancun Classic. In 2006, Mariah finished first on vault and fourth all-around at the State Championships. She finished second all-around and first on vault at Regionals. She placed sixth on bars at JO Nationals. Mariah was limited in 2007 and 2008 due to injury.

As a freshman at Arkansas in 2009, Mariah competed on vault and bars in every meet of the season. She finished third on bars at Oklahoma and against Ohio State. During her sophomore season, Mariah competed in all fourteen meets on bars and beam. She competed thirteen times on vault. She finished third on beam at Washington. In 2011, Mariah competed on bars and beam mainly. She had one performance on vault. She won bars at LSU.
