Terin Marie Humphrey was born to Lisa and Steve on August 14, 1986. She began gymnastics in 1988. Her original gym was Arising Stars. She trained at Great American Gymnastics Express during her elite career.
In 1998, she competed as a level ten. She qualified to the JO National Championships. In 1999, Terin won the Missouri State All-Around Title. She swept all five gold medals at the Regional Championships. At the JO Nationals, she finished third all-around and first on bars. She soon qualified to junior international elite. At the US National Championships, Terin made the US National Team. She was selected for the USA v. France dual meet. She finished second on vault and fourth all-around.
Terin continued to compete as a junior international elite in 2000. She started her season off at the American Classic. At the US Classic, Terin placed fifth all-around. She then competed at the US National Championships. She placed second all-around! Terin went to the USA vs. France competition for the second year in a row. She finished first all-around. She then competed at the International Team Championships.
Her final year as a junior international elite was in 2001. She started her season in Hawaii at the American Team Cup. Terin then placed fifth all-around at the US Classic. A few falls kept her down in the standings at the US National Championships. She returned as a senior international elite in 2002. Terin placed second all-around at the Parkette Invite and first all-around at the Dragon Invitational. She then competed at the Gymnix International in Canada. Terin won floor and finished third all-around.
At the American Classic, she finished eighth all-around. Terin placed fourth all-around at the National Elite Podium Meet. She also finished fourth at the US Classic. Terin made her first senior national team at Nationals. She competed at the USA vs. Mexico and Brazilian International meets. She finished second all-around and third all-around respectively. The highlight of the season was being selected for the World Championship Team. Terin reached semi-finals on both vault and floor.
Terin continued to compete as an elite in 2003. She finished second all-around at the National Elite Podium Meet. She then finished in the top ten at the American Classic and Pacific Challenge. Terin placed third all-around at the US Classic. At the US National Championships, she finished sixth all-around. Terin was named as an alternate to the World Team. She was able to compete due to an injury to Annia Hatch. She helped the United States win gold!
In 2004, Terin won the Hawaiian Invitational. She then finished fifth all-around at the American Cup. Her final US National Championships was in Nashville, Tennessee. She finished third all-around! Terin was selected for the US Olympic Team. In Athens, she was a silver on uneven bars! She went on tour with TJ Maxx in the fall.
As a freshman, Terin was named to the All Sec Team on uneven bars. She won the SEC Title. Terin won bars at the NCAA Regional Championships. At the NCAA Nationals, she finished first on bars! Terin was a first team All-American on bars, beam and floor. As a sophomore, she was an Academic All Sec honoree. She finished first on beam at the NCAA Regionals. She was named a first team All-American honoree on beam.
During her junior season, Tern had surgery on both elbows in the fall. She was supposed to miss the first part of the season but instead competed in every meet and in the all-around twelve times. She won bars against Oklahoma and at the Regional Championships. She won the all-around against UNC and at the Regional Championships. She won beam against Auburn. She won vault and floor against UNC. Terin earned all-american honors on bars and beam. The team faced a major disappointment when the team failed to qualify for the Super Six. Humphrey came back in event finals to win the uneven bars title. Terin was an Academic All-SEC honoree. She announced her retirement on March 18, 2008, because of a back injury.
