Kytra Hunter was born on October 25, 1991. She resides in Frederick, Maryland. She enjoys math and science at school. She began gymnastics in 1995. She was a National TOPs Team Member in 2000, 2001 and 2002. Kytra has trained at Hill's for the last several years.

In 2001, she competed as a level eight. Kytra won the all-around title at States. She finished in the top fifteen at Regionals. In the fall, she qualified for National TOPs Testing. In 2002, she moved up to level nine. She won the California Classic. Kytra finished third all-around at the State Championships. She ended her season at Regionals. She did another level nine season in 2003. She finished seventh all-around at Regionals. This qualified her for the Level 9 Eastern Championships. Kytra competed as a level ten and junior pre-elite in 2004. She competed at States and Regionals. As a junior pre-elite she competed at the American Challenge.

Kytra competed as a level ten in 2005. She finished fourth all-around at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She was third all-around at the Dragon Invitational. Kytra competed at Regionals. In late 2005, she finished second all-around at the Holiday Invitational. She won the Maryland Classic in 2006. Kytra finished second at the All Olympia Invitational and third all-around at the Parkette Invite. She won the Frederick Classic. Kytra became the Level 10 State Champion at States. She then won Regionals. At the JO National Championships, Kytra finished second all-around!

After the level ten season, she qualified to junior international elite. Kytra qualified to the US National Championships. She placed 17th all-around. She qualified to senior international elite in 2007 but a shoulder injury kept her out of the competition. She returned to level ten in 2008. She won floor and the all-around at the Hardrock Invitational. She earned a spot on the Maryland State Team after winning vault, bars, floor and the all-around at Staes. She won beam, floor and the all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she won the all-around, vault and floor. She finished fifth on beam and sixth on bars. She made the JO National Team. In the fall, she committed to the University of Florida.

In 2009, she won vault, floor and the all-around at the Maryland Classic. At the Parkettes Invitational, she competed on bars and beam only. In March, she won floor and finished second all-around at the Byers Invitational. In April, she was added to the United States National Team. At the American Classic, she won floor. She received her first international assignment to the European Tour. She had the highest score on floor against Germany. In July, she competed at the US Classic. Kytra competed in the all-around at the Visa Championships. She placed fourth! She won a bronze medal on floor. Kytra had a busy fall. She was named an alternate to the World Team. She was also given the chance to compete at the Toyota International where she won a bronze on floor. In November, she signed with the University of Florida.

Kytra had a strong opening to 2010. She swept all five events at the Maryland Classic. She was also given a ten on vault in event finals! At the Parkette Invitational, she swept the events again. Kytra won vault, floor and the all-around at the AOGC Invitational. At the National Team Training Camp, she was named the alternate for the American Cup. In March, she was named to the USA Team to compete in Jesolo, Italy.
