Melissa Idell was born on May 4, 1994. She trained at KMC Gymnastics through the 2008 season. She then moved to First State Gymnastics. Melissa will graduate from high school in 2012.
In 2004, Melissa competed level six. She finished third all-around and first on vault at the Friendship Classic. She competed level nine in 2007. She finished in the top twenty at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2008, Melissa won floor at the Friendship Classic. She finished in the top twenty at the State Championships. Melissa finished in the top twenty at Regionals in 2009.
Melissa had a strong 2010 season. She won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at both the Star Struck Invitational and Excalibur Cup. She swept the gold medals at the Capital Cup. At Regionals, she finished sixth. Melissa placed fifth all-around at Easterns. She also placed second on beam and floor and fourth on vault. She began competing level ten in the 2010-2011 season. At the First State Invitational, she finished second on vault, bars and floor. Melissa won floor at the Christmas City Classic. She won the all-around title at the Arnold Gymnastics Challenge. Melissa finished in the top twenty at Regionals.
