Danielle Ikoma was born on November 25, 1988. Her younger sister, Michelle, is also a gymnast. Danielle trained at Naperville Gymnastics through the 2001 season. She then moved to Arena Gymnastics. Danielle graduated from high school in 2007.
In 1999, Danielle competed level eight. She had a respectable finish at the State Championships. She competed level nine in 2001. She finished in the top ten at Regionals, qualifying for Easterns. Danielle moved up to level ten in 2002. She finished fifth on beam and tenth all-around at JO Nationals. In 2003, Danielle finished 13th all-around at JO Nationals. Danielle finished second on bars and fourth all-around at the 2004 State Championships. She finished third all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Danielle placed sixth on vault, fifth on bars, second on beam and fifth all-around.
Danielle continued competing level ten in 2005. She won vault, bars and the all-around at the State Championships. At JO Nationals, she placed third on vault, first on beam and second on bars and in the all-around. In 2006, Danielle won beam at the GymQuarters Invitational. She won vault, beam and the all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed first on beam and third all-around. She was named the Region 5 Athlete of the Year. Danielle finished second all-around at the 2007 Bravo Classic and third all-around at the Hard Rock Invitational. She placed second on bars and fourth all-around at JO Nationals.
As a freshman at Stanford in 2008, Danielle competed on vault four times. She also competed on floor and bars once. Danielle competed on vault, beam and floor as a sophomore. She was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic second-team and was also Stanford's Most Improved Gymnast. During her junior season, she competed on beam throughout the season. She also competed on vault eight times and bars three names. She was named an NACGC/W Scholastic All-American.
