Rachel Inniss was born on March 14, 1989. She trained at Dana's Westside Gymnastics through the 2006 season. She then moved to Albuquerque Gymnastics. She graduated from high school in 2007.

In 2003, Rachel competed level ten. In 2004, she finished in the top twenty at Regionals. Rachel finished fourth all-around at the 2005 State Championships. In 2006, she placed second on beam at the San Diego Classic. At the 2007 National Judges Cup, Rachel won floor. She placed second all-around. She won five gold medals at the American Dream Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished first on all four events and the all-around. She finished fourth all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed sixth on floor.

As a freshman at Auburn in 2008, Rachel competed in eight competitions on beam. She exhibitioned beam at LSU. In 2009, Rachel won floor against Illinois-Chicago. She qualified for the NCAA Championships on floor. Rachel finished first on beam at LSU in 2010. She also won beam against Kentucky. Rachel competed in every meet on beam and floor. She won floor at Regionals, qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
