Melanie Jorgensen was born on May 18, 1992. She trained at Encore through the 2003 season. She then moved to Diablo Gymnastics for one year. She trained at West Coast Olympic Gymnastics Academy in 2005 and California Gymnastics Academy in 2006. Melanie returned to Diablo for the 2007 and 2008 seasons before moving to Golden Gate Gymnastics. She graduated from high school in 2010.
In 2003, Melanie competed level seven. She placed second on bars at the Mardi Gras Invitational. She moved up to level eight in 2004. She competed at the State and Regional Championships. In 2005, Melanie placed second on bars at the San Diego Classic. She won bars at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She competed at the State and Regional Championships. Melanie competed level nine in 2006. She finished in the top ten at the State and Regional Championships. She won beam at Regionals. Melanie finished 21st all-around at Westerns. In 2007, she won beam and the all-around at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. She won bars and the all-around at the Novato Classic. She was injured during her floor routine at the State Championships.
Melanie began competing level ten in 2008. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She finished 12th all-around at Regionals. In 2009, Melanie won beam at the Golden State Classic. She finished 15th all-around at Regionals. Melanie won bars and beam at the 2010 Tachi Palace Invitational. She won bars at the Long Beach Open. At the Byers Invitational, she finished third on bars. Melanie finished 15th all-around at Regionals.
As a freshman at Cornell in 2011, Melanie competed in the all-around. She finished third on bars at the ECAC Championships. She won bars at the Ivy Classic. Melanie also won bars at the USAG Collegiate National Championships.
