Maile'ana Kanewa was born on November 29, 1993. She trains at The Gymnastics Academy in Duluth, Minnesota. She will graduate from high school in 2012.

In 2006, Maile'ana competed level eight. She won vault and placed third all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished third on vault and eighth all-around. Maile'ana moved up to level nine in 2007. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won vault and floor. She placed second all-around. She finished in the top twenty at Westerns. She began competing level ten in 2008. She won floor at the Northern Lights Invitational. At Regionals, Maile'ana placed fourth on floor and eighth all-around.

Maile'ana continued to have strong results in 2009. She won floor at the Chows Rising Stars Invitational. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. At the Harley Davidson meet, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. Maile'ana placed third all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished fourth on vault, fifth on floor, ninth on beam and eighth all-around. In 2010, Maile'ana won five gold medals at the Winterfest. She won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She won vault and floor at the IGI Chicago Style. Maile'ana placed fourth all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won vault and floor and placed third all-around. She ended her season at JO Nationals, finishing fourth on floor and 13th all-around.
