Kelsey Chan was born on September 12, 1996. Her younger sister, Kayla, is also a gymnast. Kelsey trained at All Starz Academy of Gymnastics and Dance in Arizona until the summer of 2005. She then moved to Woodward West. Kelsey began training at Wallers' GymJam Academy in the fall of 2007. She will graduate from high school in 2015.
In 2003, Kelsey competed level four. She competed at the Winter Sun Invitational. She placed in the top fifteen at the State Championships. Kelsey continued competing level four in 2004. She finished third all-around at the Winter Classic. She won vault at the San Diego Classic. At the Spring State meet, she placed third on floor and in the all-around. Kelsey competed level five in the fall season. She competed at the State Championships. Kelsey competed level seven in 2006. She finished second on vault at the Optional Hoedown Prelim.
Kelsey competed level eight in 2007. She finished sixth all-around at the State Championships. She placed in the top twenty at Regionals. Kelsey continued competing level eight in 2008. She won vault and the all-around at the IGHOF Invitational and San Diego Classic. She finished third on vault as a level nine at the IGI Chicago Style. She resumed competing level eight, winning vault and floor at the California Classic. She won vault at the American Kids Cup. She finished second on vault at the State Championships. At Regionals, Kelsey placed third on vault and fourth all-around.
In 2009, Kelsey competed level nine. She placed second all-around at the Team OC Invitational. She won beam at the San Diego Classic. Kelsey won floor and the all-around at the WOGA Classic. She won five gold medals at the California Classic. She won vault and floor at the Heart of a Champion Invitational. At the State Championships, she placed fifth all-around. Kelsey won vault and placed third all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she finished second on vault, third on beam and third on floor. She finished eighth all-around.
She began competing level ten in 2010. She finished fourth all-around at the Classic Rock Invitational. Kelsey won floor and the all-around at the Heart of a Champion Invitational. She placed third at the Return of the Titans meet. At the State Championships, she placed second on bars and third on vault. Kelsey tied for eighth at Regionals. She ended her season at JO Nationals. In 2011, Kelsey finished second on floor at the IGI Chicago Style. She won floor and the all-around at the Heart of a Champion Invitational. At the State Championships, Kelsey won vault. She placed second on bars and third all-around. Kelsey finished tenth all-around at Regionals. At the JO National Invitational Tournament, she won vault with a 9.750. She placed seventh all-around.
