Ashley Gayle Kelly was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 2, 1984. Her hometown is Tulsa, Okahloma. She started gymnastics in 1986. She trained at Tulsa World Gymnastics before switching to Krafft Academy until 2001. Ashley then went to International Gymnastics in Spring, Texas. She trained at Prestige in Pennsylvania before going to college. She graduated from ASU in 2006.
In 1998, Ashley competed as a level ten. She finished eighth all-around at Regionals. She qualified for the JO National Championships. After the level ten season, she qualified to junior national elite. Ashley finished second all-around at the US Challenge. At the National Gymnastics Festival, she placed fifth all-around. In 1999, Ashley qualified to junior international elite. She competed at the American Classic.
She moved up to senior international elite in 2000. Ashley finished in the top twenty at the American Classic. She won the Plano Classic. Ashley qualified to compete at the US National Championships. She missed the national team by one spot. In the fall, Ashley went to New York for the International Team Championships. She helped the United States team win. In early in 2001, Ashley finished sixth all-around at the American Cup. She then competed at the American Team Cup. After her gym change, Ashley did not do well at the US Classic or National Championships.
During her freshman year at Arizona State University, Ashley scored perfect 10.0's on vault and bars. She earned Pac-10 Gymnastics of the Week honors twice. She was also an ASU Female Student-Athlete of the Year. She earned first-team all-Pac 10 honors in the all-around. During her sophomore season, Ashley won the NCAA Beam Title. Ashley earned first-team All-American status on beam and in the all-around. She was a second-team All-American on beam and floor. She also won the Pac-10 Title On beam. She repeated this feat in 2005. As a senior in 2006, she earned three Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week honors. She won her 20th career all-around title during senior night. She also won bars and floor at senior night. Ashley had 22 career all-around titles. She won the NCAA Regional beam and all-around titles. She finished third in uneven bars finals during event finals, earning first-team All-American honors. She earned All-Pac-10 honors in the all-around, bars and beam.
In 2007, Ashley trained under Kelli Hill at Hill's Gymnastics to make an elite gymnastics comeback. An injury ended this attempt. Following this she became a Red Rocker for the Caps hockey team.
