Maya Ketner was born on November 10, 1991. She trained at Gedderts' Twistars during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2010.

In 2004, Maya competed level eight. She finished fifth on vault at Regionals. She won vault at the 2005 State Championships. She again competed at Regionals. In 2006, Maya moved up to level nine. She won bars at the State Championships. In 2007, Maya finished first on bars at the Motown Madness meet. She won bars and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won uneven bars. She placed third on bars, seventh on vault, eighth on floor and fifth all-around at the Level 9 Eastern Championships.

Maya moved up to level ten in 2008. She won the all-around at the Motown Madness meet. She won bars at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed sixth on bars and tenth on beam. She finished 26th all-around. Maya won vault and floor at the 2009 Battle of the Champions meet. She placed second all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won vault, bars and the all-around. Maya placed second on bars at JO Nationals. She finished 12th all-around. In 2010, Maya placed second all-around at the Twistars Invitational. She won bars at the San Diego Classic and beam at the For Love or Money meet. She did not compete in the championship season.
