Courtney King was born on April 30, 1989 to Tom and Carol King. She trained at Sea Wind YMCA during her club career. She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 2007. She is attending UC Davis for college.

In 2003, Courtney competed as a level five. She finished fourth all-around and second on floor at the San Diego Classic. She moved up to level six in 2004 and level seven in 2005. She finished second all-around at the San Diego Classic. Courtney moved up to level eight in 2006. She placed second all-around and first on floor at the Golden Gate Invitational. In 2007, Courtney began competing as a level nine. She finished fourth all-around at the Gymnastics in Paradise meet. Courtney only competed on two events at States. As a diver, she placed third in the Avocado League as a senior. During her freshman year at UC Davis, she was on the diving team.
