Carrie Kinghorn was born to Dave and Susie on August 18, 1984. She has two sisters, Stephanie and Kim. She graduated from South Salem High School in 2002. Carrie trained at the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon during her club career. She competed as a level ten in 2002.

In the fall of 2002, she began her career at Sacramento State University. She competed on bars during her freshman year. As a sophomore, she competed on bars and floor. As a junior, Carrie emerged as an all-around. She also competed in the all-around as a senior.
