Whitney Kirby was born on March 6, 1994. Her sister, Ashlyn, is a level ten gymnast. Whitney trained at Shooting Stars during her club career. She graduated from high school a semester early to join Georgia for the 2012 season.

In 2002, Whitney competed level five. She won vault at the State Championships. She competed level seven in 2004. She finished fourth on bars at the Carolina Classic. At the State Championships, Whitney placed third on bars and beam. She competed level eight in 2005. She won floor at the Salem Invitational. At the Carolina Classic, she placed second on vault. Whitney competed level nine in 2006. She won bars and the all-around at the Sweetheart meet. At the Twin City Classic, she finished second all-around and first on bars. Whitney placed second on vault and fifth all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed in the top fifteen. She ended her season at Easterns.

Whitney began competing level ten in 2007. She placed fourth on beam at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished third on vault, bars, beam and floor. Whitney missed the 2008 season. She returned in 2009. She finished first on vault and beam at the Judges Cup. She placed third all-around at the Hilton Head Island Invitational. At the Tiger Paw Invitational, she won bars, beam, floor and the all-around. Whitney won the all-around at the Charleston Cup. At the National Gymnastics Challenge, she won bars. Whitney placed second on vault and beam at the State Championships. She won bars, beam and the all-around at Regionals. She ended her season at JO Nationals. In 2010, Whitney only competed on floor at the Flip Fest Invitational.
