Kana Kobayashi was born on June 7, 1995. Her sister, Fumina, is also a gymnast. Kana trained at Gymnastics Training Center (GTC) in Utah until the 2008 season. She then began competing for Olympus Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2013.
In 2002, she made the Diamond TOPS National Team. She was seven years old. In 2004, Kana competed as a level eight. She finished sixth all-around at States. She placed in the top twenty at Regionals. She was named to the National TOPs "A" Team in the fall. She continued competing as a level eight in 2005. She finished second all-around at States. She won bars and beam. At Regionals, Kana placed second all-around. She made her third Natonal TOPs Team in the fall.
Kana competed as a level nine in 2006. She finished sixth all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. Kana won a silver medal in the all-around at the Starz and Stripes Invitational. She won floor. She picked up another silver medal in the all-around at the Hard Rock Invitational. She won a gold medal on beam. At States, Kana finished second all-around. She won vault and beam. She also participated in hopes. Kana competed at the US Challenge in Kansas City, Missouri, that year. In the fall, she qualified to her last TOPs National Team.
She continued competing as a level nine in 2007. She won vault, beam, floor and the all-around titles at States. She finished second on bars. Kana competed in hopes again at the US Challenge in Battle Creek, Michigan. With her new gym in 2008, she moved up to level ten. She finished third all-around at the Crystal Cup. At the Hard Rock Invitational, Kana placed second on beam. She finished third on beam at the Winterfest in Colorado. At States, Kana won the all-around title. She also won every event title. She finished fifth all-around at Regionals. This qualified her for her first JO National Championships. She won silver medals on bars and beam as well. At JO Nationals, Kana finished twelfth all-around. She placed fifth on beam!
In 2009, Kana competed her second year as a level ten. She won a silver medal on beam and in the all-around at the California Classic. She won bars. At the Byers Invitational, she finished seventh all-around. She won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at States. At Regionals, she finished third on beam and in the all-around. She ended her season at JO Nationals. She competed at Regionals in 2010, placing in the top twenty. In 2011, Kana finished first on vault at the Crystal Cup. She won beam at the Gliders Invitational. At the Seattle Open, she won beam, floor and the all-around. Kana finished first on bars and fourth all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed first on bars, sixth on beam and eighth all-around.
