Kristen Pickering was born on June 13, 1997. Her older sister, Olivia is also a gymnast. Kristen trained at Kips School of Gymnastics through the 2005 season. She then moved to Lanier's Gymnastics for three years before her family opened Olympic Warrior Gymnastics in 2008. She will graduate from high school in 2016.

In 2004, Kristen competed level three at the State Championships. She moved up to level four in 2005. She won vault at the Gatlinburg Classic. At the State Championships, she finished fourth all-around. Kristen competed level seven in 2007. She represented Mississippi at the National Judges Cup. At the State Championships, she placed first on vault and second all-around. Kristen competed level eight in 2008. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. In 2009, Kristen finished second on bars at the Alamo Classic. She finished fifth all-around at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals.

Kristen continued competing level eight in 2010. She placed first on vault and bars at the National Judges Cup. She won bars at the Presidential Classic. At the State Championships, she placed first on bars and third all-around. She finished in the top twenty at Regionals. In 2011, she finished ifrst on vault, bars and the all-around at the Warrior Challenge. She won vault, floor and the all-around at the Southern Classic. At the Lady Luck Invitational, she finished first all-around. Kristen placed first on bars at the Metroplex Challenge. Kristen won bars and the all-around at the Jazz Invitational. At the Gasparilla Classic, she placed first on vault and third all-around. Kristen finished third all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished sixth all-around.
