Kimberly Kruk was born on June 2, 1987. She is the daughter of Zbigniew and Gisele Kruk. During her club career, she trained at Illinois Gymnastics Institute under Todd Gardiner, Kurt Aichele and Sharon Barbato.

In 2000, she competed as a level seven. She won the Illinois State All-Around, Uneven Bars and Balance Beam titles. By 2004, she was competing as a level ten. She won the State all-around title. She finished fifth all-around at Regionals. Kimberly finished third all-around and third on beam at her first JO National Championships. She won the state vault, bars, floor, and all-around state titles in 2005. She finished third all-around at Regionals. Kimberly placed third on vault at JO Nationals.

As a freshman, Kimberly competed in the all-around twelve times for the Illini. She won six individual titles; one on bars, two on floor and three in the all-around. She was a George Huff Award recipient. During her sophomore year, she competed in every meet. She did all-around nine times. She placed fourth on beam at the Big Ten Championships. She won two event titles against Iowa, bars and the all-around. She was an Academic All-Big Ten selection and Illinois Scholastic All State selection. In 2008, she competed on vault the first two meets before a foot injury. She was the team's atlernate on bars most of the year. She was an Academic All-Big Ten and Illinois Scholastic All-State selection for the second year. As a senior, she competed three times on bars and twice on vault. She earned Academic All-Big Ten selection.
