Keeley Smith was born in 1988 in Tacoma, WA, and grew up in the nearby suburb of University Place, with her twin brothers who are two years younger. She attended UP schools, graduating from Curtis High School in 2006. At age 5, Keeley began gymnastics classes and was soon competing for the Tacoma YMCA. In 2000, Keeley moved to Grace Gymnastics Center in Lakewood, WA, where she competed USAG Levels 7-10, and where she trained until leaving for college.

By 2002, Keeley was the Level 8 State Champion as well as YMCA National Champion. The following year, as a Level 9, she placed 2nd at both State and Regionals, and 6th at Western Nationals, where she took bronze on bars. Keeley moved to Level 10 in 2004, taking gold on floor and bronze in the all-around at the Region II Championships, competing at J.O. Nationals, and capturing her second YMCA National Championship. Her second year of Level 10 brought Keeley another State Championship, including 1st place finishes on both beam and floor exercise, and a second trip to JO Nationals. During 2006, Keeley’s final year of USAG competition, she returned to JO Nationals, placing 5th on beam, 10th on floor and 11th all-around.

Keeley moved on to NCAA gymnastics, competing for the University of New Hampshire. As a freshman in 2007, Keeley placed third or higher in both beam and floor exercise in several meets, including 1st place finishes on floor in meets against the University of Maryland and the University of North Carolina . Keeley also finished 6th on beam at the NCAA North East Regional Championships, and she was named to the UNH all-time record board for scoring a 9.925 on beam at the Fox Run Invitational. Keeley’s Sophomore season was similar to her first, with the addition of her appearance in the bars line-up. As a sophomore, she continued to comepte on bars, beam and floor.
