Kaitlyn Szafranski was born on July 15, 1997. Her sister, Ashley, is also a gymnast. Kaitlyn trained at Diamond Gymnastics until 2007. She then moved to First State Gymnastics. Following the 2009 season, Kaitlyn began training at Parkettes.

She competed level five in November of 2006, placing third all-around at the Blackeyed Susan meet. In 2008, Kaitlyn competed level seven. She placed third on bars and fourth all-around at the Aquafina Team Challenge. At the Friendship Classic, she finished first on floor and in the all-around. She won vault, bars and the all-around at the State Championships. In the fall, Kaitlyn made the National TOPs "B" Team. Kaitlyn competed level eight in the 2008-2009 season. In December, she placed second all-around at the Christmas on the Chesapeake meet. She won bars, floor and the all-around in January at the Maryland Classic. At the Hard Rock Invitational, Kaitlyn placed third on floor and first on vault. She ended her season at Regionals, placing second on vault and bars.

In 2010, Kaitlyn began the season competing level nine. She finished third all-around at the Maryland Classic. At the Parkette Invitational, she won vault, beam and the all-around. The next day, Kaitlyn competed level ten. She won vault and placed second all-around. At the Fiesta Bowl Invitational, she won vault and floor. She placed third all-around. In March, Kaitlyn competed at the Gymnix International. She returned to level nine for the rest of the season. She won floor at the Pink Invitational. At the State Championships, she placed second all-around. She won vault and floor at Regionals. She ended her level nine season at Easterns, placing second in the all-around. She also finished second on vault and third on floor. In June, Kaitlyn qualified for junior pre-elite at the Bieger Elite Qualifier. A few weeks later, she earned her international elite score at the July National Elite Qualifier. She competed at the US Classic.
