Kathy Tang was born on January 25, 1994. Her older sister, Karen, is a gymnast at the University of Maryland. Kathy trains at Daggett Gymnastics in Massachusetts. She will graduate from high school in 2012.
In 2003, Kathy competed level six. She finished sixth all-around at the State Championships. She skipped level seven and competed level eight in 2004. She finished in the top fifteen at the State Championships. In 2005, Kathy finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She placed third on floor and sixth all-around at Regionals. Kathy moved up to level nine in 2006. She finished third all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed eighth all-around and fourth on floor. Kathy finished in the top thirty at Easterns. In 2007, she finished first on vault and floor at the State Championships. She placed second all-around. At Regionals, she won vault. Kathy finished first on vault and floor at Easterns! She also placed tenth on bars and eighth all-around.
Kathy began competing level ten in 2008. She finished first on vault and third all-around at the State Championships. She finished third on floor at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Kathy finished 20th all-around. She placed tenth on vault and sixth on floor. In 2009, Kathy finished first on vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Bay State Classic. She won vault and beam at the Little Bigger Invitational. At Regionals, she placed first on vault and floor. She finished second all-around. Kathy placed fourth on vault at JO Nationals. She finished eleventh all-around.
In 2010, Kathy finished first on vault, bars, beam and the all-around at the Tim Daggett National Invitational. She won vault at the Starlight Invitational. At the State Championships, she won beam and floor. She placed second all-around. Kathy finished third on vault at Regionals. She won beam and the all-around at the JO National Invitational Tournament. In 2011, Kathy won vault and beam at the Bay State Classic. She won bars, floor, and the all-around at the Tim Daggett National Invitational. She finished third all-around at the Excalibur Cup and second all-around at the Starlight Invitational. At the State Championships, Kathy won bars. She placed second all-around. She won bars and the all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Kathy placed tenth on beam, eighth on floor and second all-around! She earned a spot on the JO National Team.
