Alaina Kwan was born on July 29, 1998. Her dad is a 1984 Olympian for diving. Her mom was a diver at USC. Alaina started gymnastics at the age of six at PDA USA Gymnastics Academy, which her parents own. She moved to Gym-Max after the 2010 season. She will graduate from high school in 2016.
As a level 5 gymnast in 2008, Alaina placed 15th in the all-around and seventh on uneven bars at the SoCal West Sectionals. She concluded her 2008 season at the Level 5 SoCal State Championships where she placed sixth on vault, seventh on uneven bars and 11th in the all-around. She only competed one meet as a level 6 gymnast at the 2009 Pasadena Classic. She quickly moved up to level 7 for the 2010 season. At the Aloha Gymfest, she placed second in the all-around and first on floor exercise. She placed sixth in the all-around at the Vegas Cup and seventh in the all-around at the Malibu Coast Challenge. At the Level 7 SoCal State Championships, Alaina placed 21st overall.
She started her 2011 season as a level 8 gymnast at the OC Classic and placed first on everything except for vault where she placed second. She won the all-around title at the Heart of a Champion. She then placed second on vault and uneven bars and third in the all-around at the California Classic. At the Malibu Coast Challenge, she won silver medals on floor exercise and in the all-around. Alaina brought home four medals at the Level 8 SoCal State Championships with two silver medals on vault and floor exercise and two gold medals on balance beam and in the all-around. There, she qualified to the Level 8 Regional Championships where she swept gold medals!
