Alexandra LaChance was born on September 17, 1987. Her younger sister, Adrienn and Ariel, were also competitive gymnasts. Alexandra trained at Gym Kids Gymnastics, which was owned by her parents.
In 2000, Alexandra competed level nine. She finished 12th all-around at Regionals. She moved up to level ten in 2001. She finished sixth on vault at JO Nationals. In 2002, Alexandra won vault, beam and the all-around at Regionals. She placed seventh on bars at JO Nationals. She finished 24th all-around. Alexandra also competed as a junior national elite at the US Challenge. In 2003, Alexandra won bars at Regionals. She placed tenth on beam and eighth all-around at JO Nationals. Alexandra won the all-around titles at the 2004 Spirit of America, I Love NY Cup and Manhattan Classic. She placed second all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won vault, bars and floor. She placed third all-around. She placed tenth on floor and ninth all-around at JO Nationals. In 2005, Alexandra won the all-around titles at the Long Island Classic, East Coast Classic, I Love NY Cup and Manhattan Classic. She won vault and bars at Regionals. She placed second all-around. She finished 25th all-around at JO Nationals.
As a freshman at Arkansas in 2006, Alexandra competed in the first five meets. She won vault against Penn State. After fracturing her lower leg, Alexandra missed ten meets. She returned to vault at the NCAA Championships. She was an NACGC/W Academic All-American. In 2007, Alexandra competed on vault and floor throughout the season. She also competed on beam three times. Alexandra was an NACGC/W Academic All-American and on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Alexandra competed on vault, beam and floor in 2008. In 2009, Alexandra competed on vault and floor throughout the season and beam in the last half of the season. Alexandra won vault against Georgia. She qualified to the NCAA Event Finals on beam, earning First-Team All-American honors.
