Elizabeth Ann Lanza was born in Silver Springs, Maryland on December 10, 1984. She grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona, as the daughter of Louis and Patricia Lanza. She has a brother Nick and a sister Nina. Nina is a former elite gymnast. Lisa graduated from Desert Mountain High School in 2003. She competed for Desert Devils under Shelly and Geoff Eaton.

As a level ten gymnast, Lisa won the Arizona State Title in 2000 and 2001. Lisa also won floor at Regionals in 2001. She won bars at Regionals in 2003. She qualified to JO Nationals twice. She did not compete her freshman year at Arizona State. In 2005, she competed on bars and beam. In 2006, she competed on bars. During her senior season, she continued competing on bars.
