Mattie Larson was born to Gail and Eric Larson on May 20, 1992. She trains at All Olympia Gymnastics Center under Galina Marinova and Arthur Akopyan.
In 2000, Mattie competed as a level five. She won five all-around titles during the season including the Sectional Title and State Title. Mattie also won vault and beam at States. She moved up to level six in 2001. In the spring, she won the all-around title at the Glider Invite. At the Sectional Championships, Mattie swept the gold medals. At States, she won all the events except for bars. In 2002, Mattie began level seven competition. She started her season by placing third all-around at the Flips USA Invite. At the Friendship Classic and hall of Fame meet, she finished first all-around! Her final meet of the season was the state championships. Mattie won her third state all-around title.
2003 was her first year as a level eight. She won the all-around title at the California Classic and Friendship Challenge. At States, Mattie placed first on vault, bars and beam. She was only second in the all-around. However, Mattie won the all-around title at Regionals! In 2004, Mattie did one year of level nine before moving up to level ten. She placed second all-around at the Vegas Cup. At the State Championships, Mattie won vault, floor and the all-around title. At Regionals, she finished second. This qualified her for the JO National Championships. At JO Nationals, which we in Florida, she finished fourth on floor!
Mattie repeated level ten in 2005. She finished first all-around at the Lady Luck Invite. At States, Mattie fell on beam and finished third all-around. She went on to win Regionals and the JO National Championships! She attended some national training camps through the next fall and spring. Mattie also competed at the 2006 Level 10 State Championships for experience. She won all five gold medals. In July, she competed as a junior international elite at the US Classic. She finished fifth all-around. Mattie was supposed to compete at the US National Championships but an injury forced her out of the competition.
She returned from her injury in 2007. She finished second all-around and first on vault at the WOGA Classic. At the US Classic, she finished third all-around. Mattie qualified to the US National Championships. She made her first National Team. In November, she competed at the Junior Pan American Games. She won the gold in the all-around and on floor. She was named as the November USOC Female Athlete of the Month for this feat.
Mattie moved to the senior division in 2008. She finished second on beam and first on floor at the WOGA Classic. At the Gymnix International, she won the silver in the all-around. She placed third on bars. At the Friendship International Exchange, she placed fourth all-around. She won a silver on floor. At Nationals, she finished seventh all-around. She then competed at the Olympic Trials. She earned a spot at the Olympic Training Squad. Unfortunately, an injury kept her from finishing the meet.
She opened her 2009 competitions at the Gymnix World Cup. She earned gold medals on beam and floor. She was selected as part of the European Tour. She did not compete all-around but assisted the team to victories against Germany and France. She missed the summer season because of two sprained ankles.
