Greta Leach was born in Santa Rosa, California on February 12, 1985. She is the daughter of Mark and Nan. Se has an older sibling, Alex. Greta graduated from Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa in 2003. During her club career, she competed for Rohnert Park Gymnastics.

In 2000 and 2002, she was a USAG National alternate. She competed at Regionals four-times as a level ten. At the State Championships in 2001, she won a bronze on bars as a level ten. In 2003, she finished third all-around at States.

In the fall of 2003, she began attending San Jose State University. She qualified as an individual in the all-around for the NCAA West Regionals. At the MPSF Championships, she finished third all-around. She competed in the all-around in ten out of eleven meets. As a sophomore, she qualified as an individual to the NCAA West Regionals. Greta competed in the all-around at every meet. Unfortunately, she was injured in 2006. During her senior season, Greta competed on beam and floor.
