Sophia Miranda Lee was born on December 4, 1994 in Houston, Texas to Gong and Holly Lee. She began gymnastics when she was 5 years old in Plano, Texas. Sophia spends 34 hours a week in training and is currently coached by Laurent Landi and Cecile Cauqueteau-Landi at WOGA Plano, Texas. She will graduate from high school in 2013.
In 2001, Sophia competed as a level four. She moved up to level five in 2002. She finished fourth all-around and second on floor at the District Championships. She won the District Championships in 2003. She competed as a level six in 2004. She finished third all-around at the WOGA Classic. She won the District Championships. At States, she finished fifth all-around. She also won a silver medal on bars. She moved up to level seven in 2005. She finished sixth all-around and third on floor at the Excalibur Cup. She advanced to level eight in 2006. At the Gymnastics in Paradise meet in Hawaii, Sophia finished second all-around. She won floor. Her final meet of the season was Regionals. She finished third all-around. She also won a silver medal on bars and a bronze medal on beam.
Sophia began competing as a level nine in 2007. At the Maryland Classic, she finished eighth all-around. She made event finals on vault: she won the silver medal. At the WOGA Classic, Sophia finished second all-around. She won vault and bars. She also won a bronze medal on floor. She finished first on vault bars and third all-around at the AOGC Invitational. At the Rose City Classic, Sophia won vault and bars. She placed second all-around. At States, she won bars and finished second on vault. She placed sixth all-around. Sophia placed second on bars at Regionals. She finished high enough to qualify for Westerns. At Westerns, Sophia finished third all-around! She also won a bronze medal on vault.
She moved up to level ten in 2008. She won vault at the WOGA Classic. She finished second all-around at the Metroplex Challenge. Sophia won a silver medal on beam at the AOGC Invitational. At the Texas Prime Meet, she finished second on vault and third all-around. She won bars. At the Texas State Championships, she won vault and beam. She injured her ankle and did not compete at Regionals. She healed in time to qualify to junior international elite and the US National Championships at the Elite National Qualifier. At the US Classic, she placed in the top ten on vault. Sophia repeated her top ten performance on vault at the US National Championships. In the fall, she competed at the Massillia Gym Cup in France.
Sophia began her 2009 season at the Metroplex Challenge. Her next meet was the WOGA Classic. She finished fourth all-around. She won a gold medal on vault. At the Great West Gymfest, under level ten rules, she finished third all-around. She won vault and beam to qualify to event finals. During event finals, she finished third on vault and first on beam. At the Houston National Invitational, Sophia finished second all-around in the elite division winning the gold on vault and a silver on beam. She next competed at the American Classic. Sophia then traveled to the US Covergirl Classic in Des Moines, Iowa, where she placed eighth overall and first on uneven with a 14.9! At the VISA Championships, she finished 16th overall and ninth on vault.
In 2010, Sophia won the all-around and uneven bars titles at the WOGA Classic in senior elite division. At the Houston National Invitational, she placed second on vault and floor exercise. Sophia qualified to the VISA Championships in Hartford, CT after placing first in the all-around and first on uneven bars at the Texas Elite Qualifier. Sophia then traveled to Chicago, IL for the US Covergirl Classic. There, she finished 9th in the all-around and seventh on uneven bars. At the VISA Championships, Sophia placed 13th overall and 8th on bars.
