Hailey Leonard was born to Shane and Jen Leonard on April 1, 1997, the second of four children. Hailey's older brother, Patrick, is a professional baseball player. Hailey trained at Starlight Gymnastics in Florida through the 2010 season. She then moved to Champion Gymnastics in Katy, Texas. She returned to Florida in the fall of 2011 and began training at Jacksonville Academy of Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2015.

In 2004, Hailey competed Level four in 2004. She competed at States. She competed at the JAX Winter Classic as a level six in 2006. She began competing level seven in 2007. She placed fourth all-around at the Daytona Beach Open. Hailey won beam, floor and the all-around at the Charleston Cup. At the Atlanta Crown Invitational, she finished fifth all-around. She also finished fifth at the Go For It Classic. She placed eighth all-around at the Buckeye Classic. At States, Hailey finished second all-around. She won vault and place second on floor. She was third on bars and beam.

She moved up to level eight in 2008. She competed at the WOGA Classic. At the Sand Dollar Invitational, she won vault and finished second on floor and in the all-around. She placed fourth all-around and third on beam at the Tampa Bay Classic. At Regionals, Hailey won vault, beam and the all-around. She placed second on floor.

She began competing level nine in 2009. She finished third on bars and in the all-around at the Battle of Champions meet. She won beam. At the Tim Rand Invitational, she won beam. She placed third all-around. She placed fourth on beam and floor at States. At Regionals, she finished sixth all-around. She qualified for Easterns! Hailey placed 16th all-around. She finished fifth on uneven bars. She also began to compete as a hopes elite. She finished third all-around at the Metroplex Challenge, winning beam and floor.

Hailey moved up to level ten in 2010. She finished fourth all-around at the IGI Chicago Style. She placed third on beam at the Tim Rand Invitational. Hailey placed second on beam at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2011, Hailey competed on bars and beam at the IGI Chicago Style and WOGA Classic.
