Ashton Locklear was born on January 13, 1998. She trained at Sandhills Gymnastics until the spring of 2005. She then moved to Southeastern. Ashton began training at KPAC after the 2008 season. She moved to Everest in the summer of 2011.

In 2005, Ashton competed as a level six. She placed third all-around at the Judges Cup and Cirque de L'Gym. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. She continued competing level six in 2006. She won the all-around at the State Championships. In 2007, Ashton competed level seven. She won bars at the State Championships. She placed second all-around. She moved up to level eight in 2008. She finished second all-around at the Atlanta Crown Invitational and third at the Buckeye Classic. At the State Championships, she won bars and placed second on beam. Ashton ended her season at Regionals. She won uneven bars. In the summer, Ashton competed in trampoline and tumbling with Physical Awareness & Gymnastics. At JO Nationals, she won level nine tumbling, placing sixth on level nine trampoline and third on level nine double mini.

In 2009, Ashton competed level ten. She won beam at the KPAC Cup. At the State Championships, she placed eleventh all-around. She finished her season at Regionals. In June, she competed level ten tumbling at JO Nationals. She just missed finals with a seventh place finish. Ashton made the National TOPs Team in the fall. Ashton had a solid 2010 season. She swept the gold medals at the Judges Cup, Sweetheart Invite and KPAC Cup. At the Tiger Paw Invitational, she placed second on bars and third on beam. Ashton finished eleventh all-around at Regionals. In May, she participated in a elite development camp. In 2011, Ashton competed at the Maryland Classic and Sweetheart meet.
