Kara Lovan was born on September 8, 1995. She trains at Triad Gymnastics in Iowa where she is coached by Donna and Tom Moretti. She will graduate from high school in 2013.

In 2006, Kara competed level seven. She won bars, beam and the all-around at the Edgewater Classic. She won bars and the all-around at the Northern Lights Invitational. Kara moved up to level eight in 2007. She finished second all-around at the California Classic. She won beam. At Regionals, she finished third on bars and floor. She placed sixth all-around.

Kara moved up to level nine in 2008. She won beam, floor and the all-around at the CGA Coaches Spectacular. At the Dragon Invitational, she won bars, beam and the all-around. She swept the gold medals at the Winter Carnival Classic. She ended her season at Westerns with a top ten finish. She earned a silver medal on floor. In December, Kara earned her junior international elite compulsory score. In 2009, Kara competed a few meets as a level ten. She won beam and the all-around at the Winter Carnival Classic. She finished second all-around at the Dragon Invitational. At the Palm Beach Invitational, Kara qualified for junior international elite. She missed the American Classic because of mononucleosis. In July, she competed at the US Classic. Kara returned to level ten in 2010. She won beam at the CGA Coaches Spectacular. At the Northern Lights Classic, she won bars, beam, floor and the all-around with a 38.150! Kara finished first on beam and second all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she placed tenth on bars, fourth on beam, eighth on floor and fifth all-around.
