Lauren L. Smith was born on November 20, 1993, in Baltimore, Maryland and currently resides in Mount Airy, Maryland. She began her competitive gymnastics career in 1999. Lauren trained at Frederick Gymnastics in Maryland until 2010 and currently trains under Bob Ouellette at Docksiders Gymnastics in Millersville, Maryland. She will graduate from high school in 2012
Lauren has competed in Maryland State competitions since 2003. She first made regionals in 2007 as a level 8 gymnast. In 2008, Lauren was the Maryland State Uneven Bar Champion and was second All-Around. At regionals that year, she finished fourth on the uneven bars.
In 2009 as a level 9 gymnast Lauren was the Maryland State Vault Champion and finished third on the floor. Other notable finishes in 2009 include third on bars in Fredericksburg, VA; third on floor at Christmas on the Chesapeake; second on balance beam and third on floor in New Orleans; and first on the balance beam at the Manhattan classic.
During the 2009- 2010 competition season, Lauren place first on the uneven bars, third on floor and third AA at the Greater NY Invitational. At the MD Classic, she was first on the balance beam. In Orlando, she finished first on the balance beam, second on the uneven bars and second all- around. In Puerto Rico, she finished first on the balance beam, third on the uneven bars and third on the floor and placed second all- around. At the Maryland State meet in 2010 she finished second on the balance beam.
