Kelsey Makoul was born on April 10, 1993. She trained at Parkettes during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2011.

In 2001, Kelsey competed level five. She finished third on bars at the State Championships. She competed level six in2 003. She moved up to level seven in 2004. She placed second on floor at the Parkette Invitational. Kelsey won floor at the 2005 Level 8 Sectional. She began competing level nine in 2006. She finished second on vault at the Fiesta Bowl Invitational. She placed fourth on floor at the Parkette Invitational. In 2007, Kelsey finished first on floor at the Parkette Invitational. She placed third on vault at the State Championships.

Kelsey continued competing level nine in 2008. She finished first on vault at the Parkette Invitational. She placed third on floor at Regionals. She did not competed in 2009. In 2010, she finished first on vault at both the Maryland Classic and Parkette Invitational. She placed first on vault and second all-around at the Magical Classic. She finished first on floor at the Excalibur Cup. Kelsey won vault and floor at the State Championships. She placed second on vault at Regionals. In 2011, Kelsey finished first on vault at the Maryland Classic. She won vault, floor and the all-around at the Maryland Classic. She won all five gold medals at the Excalibur Cup. At the Pink Invitational, she won bars and floor. Kelsey placed first on vault and floor at the State Championships. She finished second all-around. At Regionals, Kelsey won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. She placed third on vault and fourth on floor at Easterns.
