Sydney Marler was born on April 5, 1999. She trains at Suncoast Gymnastics in Florida. She will graduate from high school in 2017.

In 2007, Sydney competed level four. She won all five gold medals at the AAU Spring State Championships. In the fall, Sydney competed level five. She won all five gold medals at the Gasparilla Invite and Fall AAU State Championships. As a prep-optional gymnast in the spring of 2008, Sydney won bars and placed second all-around at the Spring AAU State Championships. She won vault and placed second all-around at the USAG Prep-Optional State Championships. Sydney competed level eight in 2009. She finished first on bars, beam and floor at the Daytona Beach Open. She won bars, floor and the all-around at the Gasparilla Classic. Sydney won the all-around at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished third all-around. Sydney finished in the top fifteen at Regionals. She competed level nine in 2010. She placed second on beam at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational and third on bars at the Suncoast Sports Festival. She placed third on beam at the Daytona Beach Open. She won floor at the City of Lights Invite. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships.

Sydney began competing level ten in 2011. She finished fourth all-around at the Suncoast Sports Festival. She finished first on floor at the Pikes Peak Cup. Sydney won beam at the March Madness Invitational. She placed in the top ten at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2012, Sydney finished fourth all-around at the Suncoast Sports Festival and Classic Rock Invitational. She won bars at the Gasparilla Classic. She competed at Regionals. Sydney won bars and floor at the 2013 Tampa Bay Turners Invitational. She finished first on bars and second all-around at the Suncoast Sports Festival. She finished third on bars and beam at the Gasparilla Classic. At the State Championships, she finished sixth all-around. She placed second on bars at Regionals. Sydney won bars at the JO National Invitational Tournament!
