Erica Matos was born on March 3, 1995. She trained at Almaden Valley until the gym closed in 2006. She followed her coach to Champion and then to Airborne in 2007. She will graduate from high school in 2013.
In 2004, Erica competed level five. She placed fourth on beam and ninth all-around at the State Championships. She continued competing level five in 2005. She placed third all-around at the Judges Cup. Erica won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the Red Line 500. She finished first all-around at the Hollywood Invitational. She won floor and placed second all-around at the Zone Championships. At the State Championships, she swept the gold medals! She moved up to level six in 2006. At the Red Line 500, she finished second all-around. She finished third all-around at the Tumble in the Jungle meet. Erica placed second all-around at the Hollywood Invitational. At the State Championships, she won vault and placed second all-around.
She immediately moved up to level seven in 2007. She placed third all-around at the State Championships. She won a silver medal on vault. Erica continued competing level seven in 2008. She placed second all-around at the Spirit of the Flame Challenge. At the State Championships, she won the all-around title! Erica also won bars. Erica competed level eight in 2009. She won bars, floor and the all-around at the Crystal Cup. At the Tachi Palace Invitational, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Erica won vault, bars and the all-around at the Long Beach Open. She placed third all-around and first on bars at the State Championships. She ended her season at Regionals.
Erica competed level nine in 2010. She finished first on bars and floor at the AOGC Invitational. At the Spirit of the Flame Challenge, she placed second on bars. Erica placed third all-around at the Malibu Coast Challenge. At the State Championships, she placed second on bars and fourth all-around. Erica ended her season at Regionals, placing fourth on bars and floor. She was the alternate for Westerns.
